Owners, Tom and Wendy Matuszak started Pit Row, Inc. in July of 2000 after Tom had been in the retail and gas station / convenience store management for over 15 years, and decided it was time to go into the business for himself.
With the help of family members Tom and Wendy bought their first store at 515 W. Walnut St. in July of 2000. Walnut St. Shell is still in the Pit Row Family, along with four other stores in the Green Bay area.
Pit Row’s business philosophy is simple, and Tom shares it with all his staff when they get hired. “Without customers we don’t have a job, so always treat our customers the same way you would like to be treated, with respect and sincerity. And always be as helpful as you can.”
Pit Row employs about 48 people … Tom and Wendy along with Tom’s sister-in-law, son, daughter, and nephew have or still work for our business. Tom is proud to say that they have many long time employees. Two staff members have been with Pit Row since they opened their doors 16 years ago. Add to that list many staff members who have been with Pit Row for approximately 10 years. Tom and Wendy believe that in order to keep their customers happy and coming back, they need provide a happy and respectful workplace for their employees, pay them a decent wage and provide with health benefits.
Pit Row believes in giving back to the community they serve. They sponsor many events for non-profit organizations. A sample list of organizations Pit Row supports have include: YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Golden House, GB Community Police, St. Edward and Isadora, St Mary’s Roller Rink, The Veteran’s Golf outing, The David Duranceau golf outing. You will often find donation containers in the Pit Row stores for the MDA shamrocks, the Salvation Army Kettle drive, Manna for Life, Camps for Blind children, as well as other community organizations.
